Surgery Went Well

Hello. Samantha is resting comfortably in her bed at MGH, Ellison 18. What a tough day she had. She was alert for a short while after surgery this afternoon during which she read the most current issue of "Us" Magazine. Because of all the medication, however, she fell fast asleep after reading about poor Britney Spears.

Surgery went well without any complications. Already, Sammy is able to move her residual limb and that's a great indication of the success she will have manipulating a prosthetic. At this point, pain is minimal. Sammy has an epidural in place that keeps her comfortable.

Sammy has been the bravest, toughest kid EVER. She truly appears to understand that surgery had to occur in order to keep her alive. No more cancer left in her leg and that makes us all so happy. We'll plod ahead with some more chemo and those lungs, and then it will be time to party BIG TIME.

We will update the blog again tomorrow. We're not sure yet what to expect. If Sammy is up for visitors, we will let you all know.

Thanks so much for checking in.

Shari and David

We are all so glad that this surgury is over. Sammy, you were in our thoughts all day and night yesterday! I don't know if you remember me and my family, but I take karate with your dad, and we were sledding with you and Becca and your dad a couple of winters ago at the Town hill, and we saw you at Solomon Cohen's bar mitzvah last spring. Anyway, we are thinking of you, praying for you, and hoping to see you out sliding again soon! Also, we expect to hear about your dancing before too long! You are a real inspiration!

Love to you and your whole family,

Tamar, Randy, Jared and Josh Roberts

Hey Becca -- everybody should get to have a super-sister like you! You are the best!

See you all soon,

My name is Michael Williams.

My daughter Justine and I had the opportunity to meet this wonderful young lady and her parents yesterday at MGH. You see, Justine is suffering from Osteosarcoma as well and has been having chemo since October.

She and Sammy are roommates! Dr. Raskin is the surgeon on both of their cases, so they share that in common as well.

All of you that know and/or are related to these wonderful people should be very, very proud of them. I was humbled by their strength and personalities.

Wishing everyone in the family prayers, strength and better days to come.
