Things Happen in Threes

The last couple of days have been overwhelming and have made me certain that things happen in threes.

Before I tell you what transpired, I just want to remind you that Samantha is a dancer. She has a passion for dance like no one else I've ever met. The most devastating thing for Samantha this past year has been the inability to dance. Of all the cancers, hers is the one that caused her to lose a limb. She struggles with the unfairness of that on a daily basis.

Today, Sammy danced again. She participated in a lyrical performance at Concord Dance Academy, choreographed by Ms. Hillary, to the song "Something to Believe In." Sammy danced alongside the camp counselors (i.e., all of her BFFs), sometimes sitting on the floor with them while she and they gracefully moved their arms, sometimes wheeling herself in her chair, and sometimes getting lifted gracefully in the air by the older dancers who love her. Despite the extra medication I have taken, washing it down with wine, I still can't stop crying. Samantha fully participated in that dance and it was the first time she's been on stage since diagnosed with cancer in July '06. We were all so proud of her courage and determination.

So that's the first thing that happened.

Second, we heard from Make a Wish today and Samantha's wish to go to a dude ranch is granted! In a couple of weeks we will be flying out to Drowsy Water Ranch in Colorado for some serious horse riding and wrangling (that's what one does on a ranch, right?). Sammy and Becca are thrilled. They both LOVE horses and can't wait to spend a whole week with their favorite creatures.

The third thing: it looks like meeting Hilary Duff is a done deal. Hilary Duff is probably going to be carrying a stun gun and mace when she meets us. So many of you faithful readers worked your contacts and from several sources now we have been told that Hilary will meet Sammy at the concert. I wonder if she even thinks she has a choice... SO, THANK YOU everyone for making Sammy's wish come true.

In addition to all of the above, our budding thespian, Rebecca, appeared in several short plays today and was FANTASTIC. How she was able to memorize so many lines in only one week is a mystery. Rebecca loves acting and is always so much fun to watch while she's on stage. We have no doubt there will be many more plays in the years to come.

So far Sammy is doing well with her new medications. Let's keep it that way!!!

Thanks for checking in.

Shari and David

Dancing with Sammy was so much fun. I'm so glad that she made it to camp last week. I was just thinking back and remembered that hot summer day when I was sitting in the office, about two years ago, and you guys came in to sign sammy up for dance class. I believe there was a little bit of persuading coming from my mouth at the time. In a way I feel I have helped. I hope to see you all again soon!!

P.S.- Hey Girls! Have fun at the dude ranch. Sounds like you'll have a blast!

Love,
Cristina White
