Hello,
We've been running around like lunatics for the last two weeks playing and having fun with family. The first trip was camping at Jellystone; the second was a journey to Montreal. We're finally home and getting ready to deal with real life.
Dana Farber has had the chance to research the best options for Sammy. Of course, any treatment must fit into Sammy's very active lifestyle :)
We still have some loose ends that need to be addressed. The plan for this morning is, however, to pursue overnight summer camp for Sammy. Attending sleepaway camp is VERY important to Sammy and her heart broke when she thought she might not be able to go. Right now, Sammy's pain is well managed. However, all agree that radiation on the arm is advisable and will help prevent uneccessary discomfort. Dana Farber is looking into having the radiation done at the Elliot in Manchester. If all works out, Sammy could be picked up from camp every day and taken for her treatment at the Elliot. Sammy is NOT happy about having to leave camp for any period of time, but she's been through radiation before and does understand that each treatment is short, sweet and necessary.
In addition to radiation, Dana Farber suggested a monthly infusion to help prevent bone growth around the arm tumor. They are sending us some materials for our review.
So today is July 16th and the first day of camp is July 21st. Nothing has been purchased, nothing has been packed. It will all get done, right?
Thank you everyone for checking the blog and reaching out to see how you can help. We are all doing OK right now. I (Shari) still haven't lost the weight from the first year of meals so PLEASE do not deliver any! Please understand that I am not always up for returning phone calls or emails. That doesn't mean you shouldn't call or email, because I really appreciate it and need it. I just don't want you to take it personally if I don't get right back to you.
Obviously, we have had a lot on our minds for the last couple of weeks. We carefully consider each and every option and every possible consequence. We are confident with Sammy's care and try to make decisions that are in Sammy's best interest, not necessarily in ours. It causes us (or should I say, Shari) a great deal of stress when a well-meaning suggestion is made about alternative treatment, obtaining additional medical opinions, or the advisability of some of the activities in which we allow Sammy to engage. The best support you can offer right now is a voice mail or an email to let us know we are in your thoughts and prayers.
I'll post some pictures we took over the last couple of weeks. The girls have been having a blast.
Thank you so much for checking in.

Mom - in my humble opinion as a fellow mom, I think you and your husband have a powerful connection to the divine through your instinct. Listen to it - it is full of love and wisdom - trust it - it will not let you down!
Love and prayers are flowing from the Neff house and if anything else can flow out of here, please don't hesitate to let us know.
