here's the scoop

Hi. Thanks for checking in. We will try to keep this updated as much as possible. Sammy and Becca will also be checking it frequently so it is a child friendly site.

Last Monday, Sammy saw her doctor for a swollen knee. She went to Dartmouth on Tuesday and endured many tests... the doctor explained to us that Sammy has "a lump growing on her left leg bone." then, on Friday, she went to Mass General and had "surgery," a/k/a a biopsy. Now we know that the name for the lump is "osteosarcoma." The doctor told us that Sammy has to have 3 months of medicine so we will be going to Dartmouth early this week to start. Sammy cannot wait to sleep at the hospital!!! After that, she'll go see the surgeon again at MGH. Sammy looks forward to starting 2nd grade next year at Bow Elementary School.

Here are a few words from Becca... "Yo. If you keep on reading stuff on this website, I'll say more funny things."

And now a few words from Sammy... "Today I went to Build a Bear. I made a Hello Kitty. I named her Jasmine. I'm feeling good." Note: Rebecca suggests that Sammy say she's feeling "better."

These are the doctors Sammy has seen:

Sara Chaffee, Dartmouth
Kevin Raskin, MGH

So that's it for now. Please feel free to write to Sammy or Becca.

Special thanks to Krista and Dave Eliason for getting this website set up. Also, many thanks to Mark Feigl for giving us the idea.

We are blessed with many friends, family and neighbors and we love you all.

Shari and David

Sammy,

I'm Scott, an old college friend of your mom's. If you ever need a good laugh, ask your mom to tell you about the time she was caught with a backpack full of cookies she "borrowed" from the dining hall at University of Rochester!

All the best!
Scott
