Some More Info

Sammy had a busy day today at Dartmouth. First she had a hearing test. It turns out she has great hearing, even better than Bubba's! Sammy also had an echocardiogram. Sammy and Becca got to see what Sammy's heart looks like and, boy, is it big! We also had the opportunity to sit down today and learn more about what Osteocarcoma is and what kind of medicine Sammy will take to get better. Osteocarcoma is a children's cancer. There are lots of different types of cancer and the one Sammy has is not the kind that grown ups get. So the good news is she IS going to get better. The bad news is that it's going to take some time to get all better. It will be hard work but Sammy is always up for a good challenge.

On Friday, Sammy returns to Dartmouth to have a mediport inserted. We all got to see what a mediport looks like, both on a teddy bear as well as on a cool teenager who was glad to show us hers. The nurse explained that the mediport will be used so the doctors can give Sammy the medicine she needs without always having to give her shots. It won't hurt when the doctor puts it in because Sammy will be asleep.

Then we head up to the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth where Sammy will check into her own room. The rumor is she will have her own TV with Nickelodean. Sammy tells me that she also gets her own computer. She'll start getting her medicine, chemo, that day. We expect to stay 2-3 nights.

While Sammy and either mom or dad are sleeping in the hospital room, Rebecca will be staying with the other parent at David's House, 1/2 mile from the hospital. That way we can all be together.

That's it for now. Sammy has loved getting all of your emails. Please be patient as it's been a little overwhelming to reply to all of them in a timely manner.

We'll keep you posted.

Lots of love,

Shari and David

Dear Sammy,

I hope you are feeling better. My mom and I just read your whole story. When can you come back to camp? I really miss you! Me and all my friends are wondering when you're going to come back to camp. We all miss you! I have to have surgery too. I will get my tonsils out on July 31st. I keep thinking about you and praying that you will get better fast. Say hi to Becca and your mom and dad for me.

Lots of love,
Delia
