Hardest Blog to Write

Sammy left us today at 1:45 PM. She is now in heaven with her grandma, Iris, great grandma, Nana Rose, great aunt, Clara, and Sammy's most beloved cat, Molly.

I must be brief because it's been a long 24 hours and i don't have the strength to say much more. We will be planning a Celebration of Life and will update with any details.

We love you, Sammy; we miss you, Sammy; we will all be together again one day soon.

To the entire Rotman family... my deepest sympathy to all of you. You have shown us all how to brave when we are actually very weak at heart. You have shown how strong a family is through the many writings in your blog. Sammy was an incredible child who has more heart and strength than any adult that I know. She will be a true leader amongst the angels.

Dear Shari, David and Becca,
No one is more fortunate to have gotten to know Sammy than me. Sammy became a huge inspiration for me, it's amazing that a young girl could teach an old guy like me how to deal with life's issues with such grace and dignity and grit. You have proven to be the most awesome family, I saw that first hand and I am so proud to have gotten to know all of you. All the guys at the office join me in conveying how sorry we are.

With love,

Dearest Rotman Family,

My deepest condolences to you in this difficult time. I feel blessed to have met Sammy and witness first-hand the fierce spirit she had in her all-too-short life. Sammy and all of you faced this with bravery, bravado and most of all a love that can not be broken in life or in death. As a father of twin 4-year olds, I cannot imagine the heartache you feel. Please know that all of you are in my prayers. Sammy may have left us, but her memory and her zest for life will always be with us, and will serve as an inspiration. Through your actions, you remind all of us that there is nothing more important than the love of family. May God bless you and hold you close in these difficult hours.

We don't know each other, but my daughters met Sammy this summer at CYJ. During the short time they were together, Sammy profoundly touch my daughters' lives, and taught them so much about spirit, and resilience, and attitude. They are both feeling Sammy's loss terribly tonight, but as I told them, for the rest of their lives they will remember with great fondness that spitfire of a little girl whose path they crossed so briefly but significantly. I cannot imagine the depths of your grief, but I just wanted to share how much of an impact your daughter made on mine, and I hope that the love and support of your friends, family and community will ease your pain. though i didn't know sammy personally, i went to camp with her. a few of my friends were the gadna or "nitzanim" for her bunk (returning campers from israel). the only things i have ever heard about sammy have been comments about the optimism of her character-- and from what i saw of her at camp, she was the epitome of optimistic. every time i saw her, she was full of life; smiling, laughing, and celebrating. now that she is in heaven, we can all celebrate her life, and remember her as the sweet, happy, 4th grade girl she was. i'm sure sammy taught us more than anyone ever could, and my deepest sympathies are with you and your family.

Dear Shari, David, Becca, Mr. and Mrs. Libenson, DR.Rotman and Mrs. Rotman.

We can not express the loss you have had. Sammy was a beautiful very strong, young lady that had lived so hard through these last 2 years of her life. Sammy was in a little cocoon that broke out to be a beautiful butterfly. The butterfly spread her pink wings to be an Angle to be free from all pain that she suffered from and is now protecting and loving her loved ones.

We are blessed to know your family as well as Miss Sammy.
Sammy will always be in our hearts, especially mine. I admire and Honor Sammy.
On last Friday night I had done some serious damage to my hamstrings as well as tendons My Dr. told me it would be a miracle if I could ride the next day. I did not care! I had one mission and I was going to ride the 25 mile ride no MATTER WHAT!!! I am so proud to have finished in first or second place for the little girl that had a huge place in my heart. I hope that I can be as strong as Sammy, and my children will learn to as strong as Sammy.

Lindsey has a graduation picture and note to Sammy that was never given to her from this summer. As Lindsey left for college for sports orientation two days after graduation, then off to Maine to work. If you would still like to have it, we will get it to you.
When Lindsey played soccer tonight at Rivier College, Lindsey was so heart broken. Lindsey sends her love to all of you.

We love you all and wish you only wonderful things for all of your family.

Wow. Sammy has been all that I have been able to think about, as well as everyone else that had the privilege to know her. All that I have heard lately from everyone that knew her is the saying, "Only the good die young." We have only had the chance to be with her for a few short weeks at CYJ, but she has certainly changed our lives. Sammy showed us that everyone is all the same, and that life must be lived to the fullest, no matter what happens. She was such a happy and outgoing kid, and loved every moment that she lived. I saw her a few weeks ago at Boston Market, and I was so happy to see her once again. It has been hard for her, but you have certainly done a great job! Cancer is unfair, and I have been, and will in the future, do anything to find a cure on Sammy's behalf.

I am speaking for all of CYJ, although I am sure that there is much more to say, but not enough room to say it.

We wish you the best of luck, now and forever, and know that Sammy is in a happier place. We will never forget her, and will do what we can to help end this.

Time cannot take away,
So may you be surrounded
By happy ones today.

May all the love and tenderness
Of golden years well spent,
Come back today to fill your heart
With beauty and content.

Adn may you walk down memory lane
And meet the one you love,
For while you cannot see her,

Dear Shari, David and Becca,

You guys, you guys, you guys, I wish I was there to put you all in a massive hug.

I am thinking of you and crying --I am thinking of you and smiling.

What special people you are -- what a wonderful family you are -- how amazing it was to get to know Sammy.

Having you all at Logan's Bar-Mitzvah was truly a great gift.

Thank you for your friendship and allowing us to share your journey.

Love,

Andrew Barer

Thank you for sharing stories and you thoughts on this blog. Bless you family.

hi sweetie
it's jourdan
i think i'm like the only one still commenting but a day doesn't go by that I don't think about what you might be doing right now. I bet you found a cute guy and you should totally wear the outfit that we bought you at the mall. I love you sooooo much sammy and you are always in my heart. It is going to be so hard to go back to camp this year because last time I was there you were with me...but you're still gonna be there with me cause I know that you're always here in spirit. I think about you everynight before bed and when I was at my dance recital i began to cry because I wanted you there so bad because I know how much you loved to dance. I love you to the moon and back. RIP my love
-Jourdan
