Some Blogs Just Aren't Fun To Write

Sorry for the delay in the update. Even though the news in Boston WAS GOOD, it is still so painful to face. Starting with the good news, the chemo seems to have done what it had to do on those lung nodules. We are very optimistic that lung surgery will not be necessary. Sammy is thrilled.

That just leaves us with the leg which will have to be amputated above the knee. Sammy has chemo scheduled at Dartmouth for 12/21 and then, when her body rebounds in mid to late January, she will have the surgery done at Mass. General. Her hospital stay down there will be close to one week. Sammy made it VERY clear to her surgeon that she wants the prosthetic to look as close to possible as a real leg and that she be able to dance, dance, dance with it. Of course more tests must be done, etc., etc., before the surgeon can make his final recommendation, but we left feeling somewhat optimistic about the whole thing.

How are Sammy's spirits? She continues to amaze us with her strength and doesn't dwell on what lies ahead. I'm sure, however, that as reality sets in, she will need all of our support.

Our heads are spinning with all of the love and acts of kindness that our friends, family, community, and strangers continue to bestow upon us. I am truly at a loss for words and don't know how we can ever begin to thank you.

We will keep you updated...

Shari and David

So very nice to hear the good news coming out of Boston. Although it is mixed with the painful fact that Sammy will have to have her leg amputated, the news about her lungs is fabulous and quite a huge relief!!

We continue to be amazed at the strength and courage of your whole family, but especially the reaction of Sammy about getting a prosthetic leg that will enable her to dance, dance, dance! You are an incredible girl, Sammy, and you will go very far in life with the wonderful attitude you have.

Jack LOVED the puppet show today, with Sammy and Becca shining through, answering everyone's questions. Thank you both for sharing your experiences with BES students and for taking some of the mystery out of Sammy's cancer.

You continue to be in our thoughts and prayers every day. We wish you all the blessings of the season.

xoxo Jack, Jean and John

Joshua is starting piano lessons in January. Might we hear a duet in the near future? I seem to remember that chopsticks can be played by two!!!

All our love,
